I went for the Foundation Course in Dyslexia Studies..
I completed !
Its provides very useful tip to how to manage a class, how to improve on ur attitude towards students or do and dont of what a teacher should not do..
Dyslexia is a specific difficulty in reading, writing, and spelling, it is not caused by a lack of intelligence or a lack of opportunity to learn. It has been estimated that 3% to 5% of Singaporeans may be dyslexic.

I have students with Dyslexia. I have problems to helping them. Firstly they have short-term memory. Thus, they tends to forget things easily even after you repeatedly tells them for a few times and next lesson they would forget. So they will have problems with spelling. They will gets confuse with words. When you tell them to write "Monday", "they will write "Monbay". Often when they copy words for the board, their written work cannot be read. They will drop a letter or add a letter in between words they copied. We learn words but a whole like when we learn the word "cat" we rem the whole word "cat" but to them they need to identify the individual sound "c", "a", "t" and slowly blend them together in order to improve on their long term memory. Thus, after they mastered this even if we give them a word that does not make sense, they would be able to pronoun them.
I think that children from young should be sent to learn phonics. This would help them in future even if the learn new challenging words in a book or newpapers or anywhere, they will know to to read them.
I find that this course is useful for teachers or parents in overall.
This will provide them with a greater understand and educate ur child or students better with an environment which they are comfortable to learn. We learn best when we enjoy the subject or when we find motivation to it. When children find that learning is difficult and after a few attempts of trying they still cannot success they will even no try to attempt. In this situation, parents or teachers will play a important role to encourage them. Of course it is not easy to "pick-up" the student who is at the verge or already giving up in his / her studies.

- Confuses basic words (run, eat, want)
- Makes consistent reading and spelling errors including letter reversals (b/d), inversions (m/w), transpositions (felt/left), and substitutions (house/home)
- Transposes number sequences and confuses arithmetic signs (+, -, x, /, =)
- Slow or poor recall of facts
- Slow to learn new skills, relies heavily on memorization
- Impulsive, difficulty planning
- Unstable pencil grip
- Trouble learning about time
- Poor coordination, unaware of physical surroundings, prone to accidents
- Slow to learn prefixes, suffixes, root words, and other spelling strategies
- Avoids reading aloud
- Has difficulty with handwriting; may have awkward, fist-like, or tight pencil grip
- Avoids writing assignments
